AGN reacts to ‘claims of abandoning’ ailing actor, Mr Ibu

The Actor Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has refuted claims of abandoning their member John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, who is currently battling illness.

The ailing actor during the week posted a Update via Instagram, begging for financial support.

Some social media users however claimed the guild has abandoned Mr Ibu, leaving him with no other option than to solicit funds from the public.

But in a statement made by its director of communications, Kate Henshaw, on Friday, the guild stated that it has never abandoned any of its members in their time of need and provisions have been made for his welfare.

“The guild has never abandoned any of its members in need, especially with health intervention, we have been at the forefront of providing necessary support even before his health condition was made public and this has been done with the full knowledge of his immediate family members.

“We have had to task members privately to help in providing assistance towards the intervention and we do not make public any form of assistance it is not our modus operandi. Ordinarily, we wouldn’t have blinked an eye over this Mr Ibu issue but it has become imperative to make some clarifications as the integrity and welfare package is at stake,” the statement read in parts.

Amid ongoing drama in the Nigerian music industry, another episode has unfolded, this time involving singer Teniola Apata, popularly known as Teni.

The drama began when a man, @ade_diran_ took to social media to question why Teni has remained single despite her numerous achievements, adding that age is not on her side.

He tweeted, “You suppose don day husband house like this ooo time day go.”

Unwilling to let the comment slide, Teni responded with a fiery comeback, telling the man to rather advise his mother to marry a wealthy individual so they can be liberated from poverty.

Her tweet read, “Tell your momsi, make she remarry rich person, comot una from this poverty.”

The script that caused the most trouble for me while I was writing it is the movie entitled Yahoo Boy; this is because it required a lot of research. You would have noticed that the movie does not depict the usual Hausa land setting.

Iyanya replies troll who belittled his achievements, compared his career to Wizkid’s

Nigerian singer, Iyanya Onoyom Mbuk, known by the stage name Iyanya has responded to a Twitter user who attempted to belittle his musical accomplishments while discussing reasons Wizkid is receiving criticism in the music industry.

The conversation began when the Twitter user, @itzbasito stated, “Wizkid’s only crime is surpassing the benchmark set for him and becoming the benchmark himself.” Another user, @Xperience_Snr, quoted the comment, adding that people expected Wizkid to end up like Iyanya and Samklef.

This comparison didn’t sit well with Iyanya, especially the insinuation that his once-prominent career didn’t meet expectations.

In a direct quote of the tweet, Iyanya expressed his discontent, saying, “You will end up like your father”.

The singer, in another tweet, further lamented the toxicity of the space, highlighting how people often undermine the years of hard work put in by creatives.
