Akeredolu Extends Medical Leave – Deputy To Continue As Acting Governor

Rotimi Akeredolu, Ondo state governor, has forwarded a letter of extension of his medical leave to the state house of assembly.

Lifestyle Nigeria reports that Akeredolu embarked on a 21-day leave on June 7 and was expected to return on July 6.

The Ondo house of assembly received a letter to the effect from the governor.

In the letter, Akeredolu had directed Lucky Aiyedatiwa, his deputy, to act in his stead.

However, the governor is yet to return to the country despite the expiration of the medical leave.

On Thursday, Akeredolu assured residents of the state that he was on the path to recovery and would soon return to office.

“Your unwavering support and genuine affection have sustained my determination to renew vigour and, most importantly, to continue serving you, the good people of Ondo state,” the governor had said.

On Monday, Olamide Oladiji, speaker of the Ondo assembly, announced the receipt of the letter indicating an extension of the leave.

Lifestyle Nigeria gathered that Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara has visited the scene of the fire disaster that consumed over 100 vehicles and lives along Eleme axis of the East -West Road.

The Governor, who was accompanied by the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu and Director of State Security Service on Saturday vowed to compensate victims of the incident.

The Governor said: “We are here to see for ourselves to get a first hand report of the incident that happened yesterday about 7:30pm that was caused by a tanker conveying PMS.

“I got the information through the MD of Indorama and I immediately alerted the security agencies to make sure they step in. From what we are seeing this morning it is not a pleasant situation.

“From what I am seeing a huge number of vehicles was destroyed,Souls lost .I have asked the security agencies to give us a full brief so that we can come into the situation fully by seeing how much we can support the families who are bereaved and how we can cushion the loss which is no fault of theirs.

“We all know the situation of this road. Is really really unfortunate .Most of our people when plying this road should ply with caution .I believe strongly that this situation would have been avoided if the motorists have behaved properly. It is late.This is situation we find ourselves. We will see how much we can control it”.

Pregnant Woman Gives Birth In Kidnappers’ Den

 

Lifestyle Nigeria gathered that A pregnant woman who was kidnapped while on her way to the hospital for delivery has reportedly given birth at the kidnappers’ den at Egede, Udi local government area of Enugu State.

The incident, which was said to have happened last Monday, saw the woman giving birth to a bouncing baby boy in the forest.

It was gathered that the woman whose name was given as Chinwendu Igwe, was with her two other little children aged between two and four years when the incident happened.

The lady’s husband, Mr. Ekene Igwe, who confirmed the development to newsmen added that he paid a ransom of N1.6 million before effecting the release of his wife and the newborn from the forest in Egede where the kidnappers asked him to deposit the ransom.

Igwe said that it was a kind motorcyclist who rescued his two kids abandoned on the road by the kidnappers.

“I paid a ransom of N1.6 million before I could get my wife and the new born baby,” he said.
