Nwodo Igbos Lagos – .

A Former Governor of Enugu state, Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo, has said that the controversial comment, that ‘Igbos built Lagos’ was taken out of context. He has, however, argued that nobody can deny the fact that the Igbo contributed to the development of Lagos, Abuja and other states.

Nwodo who said this in an interview with Arise TV said, “Some people have quarreled with the word, ‘the Igbos created Lagos’, I think that was taking the thing out of context.

“What nobody can deny as a fact is that the igbos have contributed immensely to the development of Lagos, Abuja, Kaduna, Port Harcourt and many other states and I know why anybody should quarrel with that statement of fact.

“Let’s take the two first cities that I have mentioned; if there are 10 markets in Lagos, seven were built from Swamps by Igbo traders. Not to talk about manufacturers in that City, those who have built residential houses, hospitality industries.”
