Bandits are on the run – Femi Adesina

Factual Pursuit of Truth for Progress

The Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity to Femi Adesina says bandits are now on the run as they are being neutralized and wasted by Nigerian security agents.

Adesina made this claim on Monday in a statement titled “Security UPDATE and Report: Bandits, Terrorists and War Lords – Neutralized, Eliminated and Wasted”.

He noted that bandits are on the run, not as he said that ‘Northern Region is gradually breathing a sigh of relief’.

The statement reads ““In the past four weeks in the month of August 2022, four (4) notorious bandit warlords have been neutralised and wasted. Bandits attacks have been negligible and all together ceased. But the battle is not over.

“Finally the tables are turning. Bandits are on the run. The entire Northern Region is gradually breathing a sigh of relief. And the reverberations of the current onslaught by our patriotic military forces will soon reach every corner of our dear nation.

FG Inaugurates PH-Aba Train Service – Declares Free Ride For Four Days

The Federal Government of Nigeria has recently launched the Port Harcourt-Aba train service, which covers a distance of 62 kilometers.

Lifestyle Nigeria reports that to encourage the usage of the train service, the Government has also declared free train rides for a duration of four days, from May 1st to May 4th. Commercial services of the train are expected to start from May 7th.

The transportation sector is one of the key priorities of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, and the Eastern rail corridor project has been receiving special focus since he took office.

This train service is a part of the government’s efforts to facilitate trade, enhance mobility, and accessibility, and promote connectivity between regions.

“With the completion of the rehabilitation of the Port-Harcourt to Aba rail corridor, the Ministry will continue to vigorously drive the contractor Messrs CCECC towards the speedy completion and delivery of the 181 kilometres Aba-Enugu stretch,” Alkali said.

“The fare for the Port-Harcourt to Aba train service has been pegged at #1000 for VIP & #800 for economy class.”

The Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC), the Managing Director, Fidet Okhiria, stated that the contractor is expected to deliver 50 narrow gauge locomotives and 100 narrow gauge coaches to be deployed along existing train corridors in the country.

The train services were initially set to commence by the end of March, but it was postponed to April 29th and is now scheduled to launch on May 7th. The rail line is a section of the Port Harcourt-Maiduguri railroad project initiated by former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

CSOs mobilise against power minister

Civil Society Organisations, CSOs under the Forum for Good Governance in Nigeria (FGGN) have expressed concern over the recent increase in electricity tariffs and are mobilising to demand for the resignation of the power minister, Adebayo Adelabu.

In response, the CSOs have announced plans to stage a protest against the Minister of Power, Adelabu, for his insistence on implementing the tariff hike despite the economic challenges facing Nigerians.

A statement jointly signed by the National Coordinator, Abraham Douglas, and Secretary of the group, Bala Galadima Ikara, described the Minister’s position as “insensitive.”

The group emphasized the need for the Minister to prioritize initiatives aimed at restoring constant power supply. They argue that a reliable electricity supply is crucial for attracting investors and fostering sustainable economic growth, rather than proposing tariff hikes during a period marked by developmental setbacks in the country.

The statement said, “the ministers claims that if the federal government continues to pay electricity subsidy for Nigerians, investors will not come is illusionary and unacceptable.

“Adelabu has no business remaining in the critical offices he occupies for failing Nigerians he should just take the honourable path and resign, or be faced with frequent civil society mass actions because Nigerians are sick and tired of his weakness and lack of capacity to deliver on Tinubu’s campaign promise,” the CSOs said in the joint statement.
