Boko Haram Leader Assassinated, Buhari Appoints Another Southerner As Army Chief

The notorious commanders of Boko Haram, Abul-Bas and Ibn Habib, have been murdered.

In an action at Banki Junction Road around the Pulka Axis in Borno State, troops took them out.

Abul-Bas and Ibn Habib belonged to Boko Haram’s Shekau group, with bases in and around the Sambisa forest.

For months, the pair and many other top terrorists have been on the watchlist of intelligence agencies.

News of their murder comes two weeks after the same fate happened to Ali Bor and Maleum Modu.

Their bodyguards and other fighters were annihilated by Abul-Bas and Ibn Habib in an ambush at a site between the settlements of Vuria and Guja.

A military intelligence officer revealed that soldiers had seized one GPMG, several AK-47 rifles, a 7.62 mm round ammunition belt, motorcycles and cell phones.

Psychologically, the officer said, the death of Abul-Bas and Ibn Habib inflicted a great blow on the Boko Haram sect.

In the ongoing Operation Tura Takai Bango, this further improved the overall fighting spirit and morale of the troops.

The unit consists of a lightweight 121 Battalion ambush team and elements of the 151 Battalion, identified as the Gaddafi Group,” he told PRNigeria on Saturday.”

Project Tura Takai Bango, the first major military offensive in 2021, is aimed at degrading terrorist activities in the Northeast.

On behalf of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Maj. Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 7 Division, Maj. Gen. Abdul Khalifa, hailed the Army Commanders in the Theatre.

Khalifa charged them with intensifying their aggressive clearing operations in order to clear the Sambisa forest and other targets of terrorist remnants and their collaborators.

Gen Adebayo Takes over as Military Intelligence Chief 

Major General Samuel Adebayo Friday took over as the new Chief of the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA).

Adebayo replaces Air Vice Marshal Mohammed Usman.

The new military intelligence helmsman, who received the reins of office from the Deputy Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major General Gbolahan Oyefesobi, promised to improve upon the Intelligence capacity of the agency.

Adebayo said the Armed Forces had done much in tackling security challenges facing the nation.

“Security agencies are also doing their best but much more still needs to be done”, he said.
