BREAKING: Flights diverted as fire breaks out at Lagos Airport

The E54 Bridge at Murtala Muhammed International Airport Terminal One caught fire early Thursday morning.

Smoke was discovered rising from the E54 Bridge, prompting electrical experts to shut down power to the airport’s E Wing.

A statement by the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Federal Airports Authority, FAAN, Mrs Obiageli Orah Director, said that although the fire was brought under control at 06:41 am, all flight operations in Terminal 1 of MMA have been diverted to the D Wing.

The statement reads: “At 05:29 hrs, smoke was detected billowing from the E54 Bridge, leading electrical engineers to immediately cut off power to the entire E Wing. The Airport Rescue and Firefighting Services (ARFFS) team was quick to respond, arriving at the scene by 05:30 hrs. Initial suspicions point to sparks from an electrical unit as the cause, but a thorough investigation is ongoing to ascertain the cause of the fire.

“The incident, which had escalated into a fire, was brought under control by 06:41 hrs. Efforts to ventilate the smoke from the building are in progress.

In the meantime, all flight operations in Terminal 1 of MMA have been diverted to the D Wing. More details will follow shortly.”

Bank Customer In Tears After His Bike Was Stolen Inside Bank Premises (Update) – Lifestyle Nigeria

A distraught bank customer was seen creating a scene at the entrance of GTBank on Iju Road, Fagba, Lagos state, after his bike was stolen while he was inside the bank conducting a transaction. The emotional moment was captured on Update and shared on TikTok by @adekunlepstar.

According to eyewitnesses, the man had followed security directives to park his bike in the designated area before entering the branch of GTbank. However, upon exiting and finishing his transaction at GTbank after his transaction, he discovered that his bike was nowhere to be found. A review of the bank’s CCTV footage confirmed that the bike had indeed been stolen.

Despite the bank’s acknowledgment of the theft two weeks ago, no action has been taken to address the situation, prompting the customer’s emotional outburst. The Update shows the man breaking down in tears as he narrates his ordeal, expressing frustration and helplessness.

Lifestyle Nigeria has obtained the official dollar to the naira exchange rate in Nigeria today, including the Bureau De Change (BDC) rate and CBN rates.

What Is The Official Exchange Rate For Dollar To Naira Today?

The exchange rate between the Naira and the US dollar according to the data released on the FMDQ Security Exchange, the official forex trading portal showed that the Naira opened at ₦1383.74 per $1 on Thursday, May 02, and closed at ₦1400.40 per $1 on Friday, May 03, 2024.

However, the Naira is trading as high as ₦1,360 per Dollar at the black market even though the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) announced the unification of all segments of the foreign exchange market.

The apex bank, had in a circular on Wednesday 14th June 2023, said all FX windows were now collapsed into the investors & exporters (I&E) window.

The statement read, “Abolishment of segmentation. All segments are now collapsed into the Investors and Exporters (I&E) window. Applications for medicals, school fees, BTA/PTA, and SMEs would continue to be processed through deposit money banks.
