BREAKING: JAMB Sanctions Officials Who Forced Candidate To Remove Hijab During UTME

Lifestyle Nigeria gathered that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, disclosed on Sunday that some of its accredited officials have been penalised for preventing a hijab-wearing female UTME candidate from entering the exam hall with her headcover.

In a statement issued by JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor, Dr Fabian Benjamin, the exam body disavowed any policy that forbids candidates from wearing religious items related to their faith.

The statement, which was in reaction to publications on some news platforms titled ‘Re: Lagos Centre Stops Hijab-Wearing Candidates as UTME Commences’ said the incident was instantly resolved with the female candidate being allowed to sit for the UTME with her hijab.

JAMB further clarified that the affected officials acted in ignorance, which is unacceptable, as ignorance of the law has no pardon before the law.

It mentioned that about 1.2 million candidates would have taken the 2024 UTME by Monday, April 22.

“It is worthy of note that the board, as a national institution, has no policy barring candidates from sporting the religious paraphernalia peculiar to their religious persuasions, as these are the facts of everyday life in Nigeria, which everyone should have been familiar with by now,” the statement added.

Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has formally launched the N4bn matching fund loan scheme expected to stimulate business activities in the State while also creating wealth through .

The launching, which took place at the Dr Obi Wali International Conference Centre in Port Harcourt on Friday, signaled the commencement of the disbursement of Rivers State Government/Bank of Industry (BOI) Limited N4billion marching fund loan scheme for nano, small and medium-scale businesses in the State.

Governor Fubara said the lack of access to credit had continued to aggravate financial exclusion and choked the prospects for individuals to realise their economic aspirations for a better life.

But with the scheme, which is a partnership between Rivers State Government and BOI, now launched, Governor Fubara emphasised that a surest path has been secured to achieve entrepreneurial success while serving as an enabler of economic prosperity in the State.

Governor Fubara explained that as a campaign blueprint, he promised, during his electioneering campaigns, to support entrepreneurial development and the growth of businesses through access to credit in the form of soft loans.

The Governor said, upon assumption of office, he noticed more closely how most businesses, especially those of small scale, struggled and either died or gasped in accessing credit that were only offered by banks at neck-breaking interest without success.

Governor Fubara pointed out that: “As a State, we cannot talk about economic growth without stimulating business activities to create wealth and jobs through policies and programmes that will engender greater public access to credit and financial inclusion.

“MSMEs are well-known as critical drivers of inclusive economic growth and development. By empowering our people to cultivate available economic opportunities, access to credit is a powerful tool for achieving financial security.

9,000 marketers may lose licences as fuel scarcity bites harder

As Nigerians battle fuel scarcity, over 9,000 oil marketers are on the verge of losing their operating licences.

As a result, the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria is urging the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited to extend its final deadline for licensing renewal to July.

It also appealed to the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Regulatory Authority to release 9,000 already processed licences to its members.

The association made the request known in a release signed by the National Public Relations Officer, Chief Chinedu Ukadike, on Thursday in Abuja.

The NNPCL had placed a deadline of April 15, 2024, for marketers to renew their licences or risk closure to access their customer express portals for the purchase of petroleum products from NNPC Retail Limited.

But IPMAN requested an extension, saying the extension would enable marketers to reconcile their licenses and reduce panic buying by members of the public aggravating the present scarcity of petroleum products.

The statement read, “The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria are abreast with current developments in the downstream sector of our petroleum industry and wish to state that the latest information reaching us from the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority states that they have already processed more than 9,000 out of the 15,000 licenses they are expected to process for our members within this period.

Woman Left in Shock After Hospital Staff Tell Her She’s Been Dead for Four Months – Lifestyle Nigeria

A bizarre incident has left a 62-year-old woman from Scarborough, UK Susan Johnson, reeling after hospital staff informed her that their records showed she had been dead for four months. The shocking mistake occurred when Susan arrived at Bridlington Hospital in Yorkshire for a scheduled scan.

Upon presenting her letter and identification, staff promptly told her, “Ooh, you’re dead.” Susan, a retired housekeeper and mother of two, was left “shaking like a leaf” and in a state of disbelief.
