Nigerians Take To Street In Protest Against Suspension Of SIM Registration By NCC
Decries Avoidable Hardship And Unemployment.

In protest over the suspension of SIM registration and SIM sales, a group of civil society, citizens and SIM registration agents took to the streets of Warri.
Wading placards and inscription banners such as ‘Restore SIM registration now’ were seen by the angry demonstrators,’ FG/NCC save our work,’ Hunger is not my friend I’m now Jobless restore SIM registration,’ Suspending SIM registration is anti-people.’
The protest kicked off around 11 a.m. at the Effurun Round and rounded up at the DSC Round-about section of the East-West Road.
Prince Ukuanovwe Godstime Oj, a renowned Nigerian language advocate and human rights activist, who is the South-South Organizer of the Intellectual Young Leader’s Network, IYLN and Member State Executive Council of the Human Rights Update Conference, represented civil society organisations, while Amb Ikpesu Andrew represented a wide crowd of SIM registration officers.
The protesters demanded that the federal government should take precedence over the Nigerian Communication Commission, the NCC to immediately restore SIM registration and sales and ask people to apply NIN at the point of registration because it is a spontaneous process to connect and upgrade the NIN.

Also, the protesters threatened that the Warri protest was a litmus test, alleging that the protest would include other states.
Also, if their demands are not met, they will occupy the regional offices of the NCC nationwide and clutter the streets of Abuja in protest.
The letter of protest was signed on behalf of CAHR by Bar Maxwell Ogedegbe, DG, CAHR, and Prince Ukuanovwe Godstime Oj on behalf of IYLNN.
