Effective January 1, 2023, Thom Browne will succeed Tom Ford, who completed a three-year term at the end of May, as the Chairman of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA). In the interim, Steven Kolb has served as Chief Executive Officer of the CFDA and will continue to do so through December 31, 2022.
Browne joins past CFDA chairs, including Diane von Furstenberg, Stan Herman, Carolyne Roehm, Perry Ellis, Mary McFadden, Bill Blass, Herbert Kasper, Oscar de la Renta, Norman Norell, and Sydney Wragge.
“I am very excited about taking on the chairmanship of the CFDA…,” said Browne. “I feel a huge responsibility in working with Steven and the CFDA team to carry on the positive and important work of Tom, Diane and Stan. I also feel that it is important to give back to an industry that has supported me so well over the last 20 years. I am so proud to be an American designer… there is so much happening in American design today that the world needs to really see and recognize and truly appreciate.”
Browne’s career trajectory aligns with the CFDA’s values: he launched his eponymous label in 2003 and has since established a recognizable line that reframes and reconceptualizes suiting and tailoring with inventive, subversive details. The brand’s grey dresses, jackets, and pants are distinct, bearing a recognizable red, white, and blue-striped insignia. Thom Browne Chairman CFDA
He has been the recipient of the CFDA’s prestigious Menswear Designer of the Year award three times—in 2006, 2013, and 2016—and he was also a runner-up winner of the 2005 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund.
“Thom understands the steps that are required to build an American fashion business that’s both successful and highly respected by the global fashion community,” said CFDA Chief Executive Officer Steven Kolb, in a statement. “He started as an independent menswear collection in New York, and developed his brand into a fast-growing, profitable business with a strong global presence.”
Over the summer, Thom Browne launched its first-ever retail presence in France at the private EPI club in Saint-Tropez. The effort marked a collaboration with architect Flavio Albanese, with whom the label has previously partnered.

arding off the declining temps’ effects seems to be a complementary feature of fall jackets this year with the majority of offerings prioritizing style. Well, that’s a pleasure to hear for some who think the colder seasons often stifle fashion’s potential. Once the cold bats its eyelids in the announcement of its awakening, we know it’s time to scamper into our wardrobes and line up our utilitarian coats, and this Fall, they are absolutely trendy.
This season, designers say, “hold up, we got your sartorial needs on lockdown” with a variety of fall jacket options to keep the fashion energy on an all-time high. Think quilts, boxy and oversize options, and a wide color spectrum with limitless styling possibilities for this season’s outerwear options.
Check out 7 on-point fall jackets to keep the energy up…
#1. Trench coat
There’s no better time to work the trench coat into your fall must-haves. It’s the best ally for expertly layering the season and a classic way to remain stylish. Trench coats are easy to style when you lean into the traditional fall color scheme, but there’s still an oomph that surfaces with eclectic accessorizing. A brown and beige combo styled with a structured bag and knee-high boots is the added sophistication required to vamp up the classic trench coat.

#2. Bomber jacket
Bomber fall jackets are classic transitional pieces to cozy up in. This year’s fashion weeks from New York to Paris had style stars reinvent the bomber jackets. Play with proportions in oversize and quilted options, or pack a whole punch in colorful versions this autumn. Their versatile styling potential makes them apt to sport with both cargo pants or a chic slip dress.

#3. Leather jacket
It’s leather weather after all, and this fall put a twist on leather jackets. Think boxy, deconstructed, vibrant hues and tailored variations. Leather is a surefire way to do fall in style. With this season’s moto of vintage-inspired counterparts, it’s easy to pull off a leather-on-leather look without serving major rock star vibes (if that’s the aim).

#4. Shackets
A stylish lightweight outerwear is everyone’s favorite fall go-to. A layering essential ready to be worn without further ado, and still maintains a dose of polish. This laid-back trend has models and celebrity off duty looks on chokehold, and are great buys. To vamp up the laissez-faire appearance, throw on a belt to accentuate the midriff. If you’re big on the laid-back trend, style with turtlenecks and knitwear for a fall ready look.

#5. Tweed jacket
Tweed jackets are hot right now, and there’s no limit to its styling potential. With the houndstooth tweed jacket taking the lead, these trendy fall jackets are perfect for work and date nights. Tweed can work on a dress, distressed denim, skirts, and wide hemmed pants—every single look would continually be a hit.

#6. Denim jacket
From age to age, denim jackets have the same effect on style stars. Designers aren’t willing to let them go, and celebrities are eager for the twist on each season’s runway trend. With 80s and 90s fashion back in the scenes, denim with embellishments and patch works are back, and are suitable for any occasion. Rocking denim jackets in fall is a wise choice for unpredictable season weather changes.

#7. Puffer jacket
These fall jackets are insulating and fashionable, probably the reason they are still a hot trend in 2022. Their urban appeal makes them street wear essentials for fall and winter. If you’re not big on the heavy puffers, there are lightweight options with less-obvious puffs. And let’s be realistic, these thin layered coats won’t keep us warm when the dropping temps hit lower. An extra puffy jacket to snuggle up in without compromising style is a keeper.

Ever looked at a woman and concluded she exuded so much class? If yes, I’m pretty sure what made you draw that conclusion was the way she expressed her chic fashion style.
The word ‘chic’ has become an everyday adjective in fashion. Per its dictionary meaning, it’s a way of dressing that is elegantly and stylishly fashionable.
Celebrities like Victoria Beckham, Rita Dominic, Ogugua Okonkwo, Angelina Jolie, etc., give meaning to this style. And if you also have been looking forward to looking chic, you’ve found an easy way out.
In this piece, you’ll learn everything about chic style, including how to pull it off and what it entails. You’ll also find visual outfit inspo that’ll show you how to dress chic every day.
Let’s dive in.
What is a Chic Fashion Style?
As the name implies this fashion style is elegant. It incorporates details such as monochromatic hues, asymmetrical hems, clean lines, flattering silhouettes, posh fabrics, classy prints, and embellishments.
The style evokes class. It has different variations as some chic may be conservative while others may be edgy. In addition, the chic style is timeless. It stems from individuality and not trends.
So, if you’re looking to imbibe it, you must be ready to wear what you love whether it’s in fashion or not.

Types of Chic Fashion Style
Chic style comes in different forms. They include:
Modern Chic Style

Any lady who has a modern chic style makes fashion statements effortlessly with how and what she wears.
Boho Chic Style
This style is a fusion of the Bohemian fashion style and chic style. It features, free-flowing textures, natural fabrics, bright prints, statement accessories, etc., that are more fitted and coordinated.

French Chic Style
This is the origin of all chic styles. In fact, the word chic has its etymology in France.
As noted on Harpers Bazaar, in the 17th century, the word stemmed from the old French term, “chicanery,” which casually means “legal quibbling and sophistry.”
So, we have the people of France to thank for introducing this word.
This form of chic fashion style features basic garments with standout details. For instance, voluminous sleeves, frills, vibrant colors, and any deets aimed at standing you out from the crowd.
The best part of this style is that you can always mix and match them to create more beautiful looks.
Chic Street Style
This is an offshoot of street style. It features streetwear outfits that are functional and fashionable.
Almost everyone wears the chic street style. The difference lies in the individual interpretations that make it unique.
Casual Chic Style
This chic fashion style is a combo of casual outfits merged with class. It involves pairing your relaxed pieces with polished ones.
Feel free to call it a smart casual outfit. Most looks in this style feature laidback pieces like jeans paired with well-tailored items like a blazer or a pair of palazzo paired with a tank top.
Rocker Chic Style
Initially, this style was for protection garments like biker jackets. Now, it’s evolved to include fringe, leather, and edgy pieces.

How to Pull off Chic Fashion Style
1. Experiment with Cut-outs
It doesn’t have to be deep cut-outs that expose your back and midriff.
It could be a dress with a plunging neckline, backless/sleeveless tops/dresses, distressed jeans, or cut-outs around your thighs, sleeves, shoulders, etc.
2. Keep Your Blazers Handy
Using a blazer to layer your outfit gives you a refined look. It’s one dose of sophistication you shouldn’t miss if you aim to look chic now and always.
3. Wear Clothes with Standout Details
From voluminous sleeves to bold colors, unique collars, loud prints, busy hems, and what have you, chic fashion involves standing out from the crowd. What better way to do so than with statement outfits?
4. Grab a Nice Pair of Kicks
You can never go wrong with a nice pair of sneakers. It’s a great addition to your dresses, suits, skirts, bum shorts, jeans, athleisure, and any type of chic outfit.

5. Wear a Classic Pair of Heels
There’s this extra layer of confidence that heels give a woman. Be it a pair of pumps or open-toe heels, once you strut in them to any occasion, you turn heads. However, this depends on how well you can walk in heels.
That doesn’t sound like you? Not a problem. Consult our guide on how to walk comfortably in heels to learn right away
6. Always Accessorize
No matter how few your accessories may be, they always transform your outfit. And this is one thing chic ladies understand.
So, never fail to tie a scarf around your neck, hair, or wrist. Wear your jewelry, don a hat, and rock your handbag.
These little add-ons always magnify your style.
7. Your Style Before Trends
A chic fashionista never fails to prioritize her style before any other thing. She puts her needs first before trends. She wears what she deems stylish and comfortable whether or not it’s in vogue.
And that’s what you should do if you wanna exude chic fashion style.
Furthermore, adapting this style is easy. Just because it’s chic doesn’t mean you should invest in luxe pieces and high-end fashion all the time.
Sometimes, thrift clothing does the magic. Because it doesn’t matter where you shop from. What matters is how you combine and execute your style.
