Court Adjourns Emefiele‘s Trial To June 24

The trial of the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele has been adjourned to June 24 by FCT High Court in Maitama.

Lifestyle Nigeria reports that when the case was called on Thursday, neither the prosecution counsel nor the defendant were in court.

However, Emefiele was represented by one of his counsels.

I.D Ahmed, who represented the defendant, told the court that the prosecution served him a letter praying for an adjournment.

He also apologised to the court for the absence of his client.

Hamza Muazu, presiding judge, said: “Because you have a letter of adjournment from the prosecution does not mean the defendant should not be in court.”

Muazu then adjourned until June 24 and June 25 for continuation of trial.

Student In EFCC Net After Conniving With Mother To Defraud Investor

Oluwateniola Omidiji, a Nursing student of Babcock University Ilishan-Remo, who connived with her mother to defraud an investor, has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Lifestyle Nigeria reports that Oluwateniola, whose mother has now relocated to the UK where she was also planning to join her, was arrested by the EFCC pursuant to a remand order issued by the court, after an investigation.

Oluwateniola and her mother under their company name; Elisto Global Services Limited, fraudulently diverted a total sum of N148,888,445 being capital invested and profit accruing to Charles Nwoko in a joint venture both parties entered in 2020.

According to a petition seen by Lifestyle Nigeria, the family collected the money under the pretence of giving out loans to members of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) who never got them.

The petition partly reads: “The parties were forging requisition letters in various fictitious names of NUT members to collect money from Mr Charles Nwoko.

“The fictitious or purported names of borrowing teachers were often compiled by herself, her daughter (Oluwateniole Omidiji) and one Mr Richard Oshin – a staff of Elisto Global Resources Ltd.”

“It was on the basis of the above that the EFCC was invited to investigate the matter, given the circumstances of the Omidiji’s and Elisto Global Resources Ltd.’s glaring fraudulent diversion, conversion and stealing of funds belonging to Mr Charles Nwoko, which funds were invested in their business pursuant to the Joint Investment Agreement between parties

“Till date, both the mother and daughter are yet to refund the said sum of #122,888,445.00 (One Hundred and Twenty-Two Million, Eight Hundred and Eighty-Eight Thousand, Four Hundred and Forty Five Naira); and also the total profit accruing illegally collected from Mr. Charles Nwoko, rather the mother has absconded to London and the daughter is preparing to join her over there.”
