For the first time this season, there will be midweek fixtures in the Premier League.

On Tuesday, Southampton host Chelsea at St Mary’s Stadium.

This game has every potential to be a banana skin for the Blues amid the topsy-turvy campaign they are having.

Last time out, Thomas Tuchel’s men were lucky to scrape a 2-1 win at home over an uninterested Leicester City, despite Conor Gallager’s first-half red card.

However, we saw how the Saints made it difficult for Manchester United despite losing 1-0. Chelsea need to make sure they are on top of their game for this encounter.

On Wednesday, Arsenal welcome Aston Villa to the Emirates. Mikel Arteta’s men are the only team in the division with a perfect start to the season.

And although the Midland clubs have lost three of their opening four fixtures, this game has every potential to throw up a big surprise.

The Gunners will be without two defensive midfielders Mohammed Elneny and Thomas Partey, with Sambi Lokonga set to come in. Villa’s very physical midfielders could take advantage of this to dominate the match and threaten Arsenal’s momentum.

Liverpool also host Newcastle United, who are now a very solid team under Eddie Howe.

The Magpies are currently unbeaten this season and will go to Anfield with every confidence in the world.

Jurgen Klopp’s men might have hammered Bournemouth 9-0 the last time out, but Newcastle will provide a sterner test on Wednesday.

West Ham won for the first time this season – a 1-0 victory at Villa Park. Tomorrow, they host Tottenham Hotspur at the London Stadium.

David Moyes’ men could look to exploit a Spurs team that is not exactly clicking at the moment and were only let off the hook by Nottingham Forest’s poor finishing on Sunday.
