Girlfriend Of Dentist Who Killed His Wife Jailed 17 Years – Lifestyle Nigeria

The girlfriend of a dentist and big-game hunter who was found guilty of killing his wife during a safari in Zambia was sentenced to 17 years in prison on Friday, court records show.

Lori Milliron, the girlfriend of Lawrence Rudolph, was tried alongside him in July 2022. A jury found her guilty of being an accessory after the fact to murder, obstruction of justice and two counts of perjury based on her testimony before a grand jury, according to the Department of Justice.

On Friday, she was sentenced to 17 years in prison and fined $250,000, according to federal judge William J. Martinez’s sentencing order.

The judge denied Milliron’s motion for non-guideline sentencing. Martinez instead granted the federal prosecutors’ motion for a longer-than-usual sentence. In their motion, federal prosecutors had argued that “Even now, Milliron has expressed no remorse.”

“Lori Milliron encouraged Lawrence Rudolph to kill his wife for her. She told him to divorce Bianca Rudolph. When he said he couldn’t afford to do that, Milliron responded by helping Rudolph procure propofol – a lethal anesthetic drug that could be used as a poison – before he took the trip where he did what she had wanted: get rid of Bianca,” their motion read.

Million’s attorney, John Dill, told CNN that the defense plans to appeal both the sentence and the jury’s verdict.

“We believe the sentence is excessive and bears no reasonable relationship to the two counts of perjury before the grand jury that formed the basis of the charges of obstruction and accessory after the fact,” Dill said. “The answers she gave before the grand jury were not false. (…) Ms. Milliron had no involvement in the death of Bianca Rudolph and she sympathizes with the family as victims of that tragedy.”

Rudolph’s sentencing was to take place earlier this week but has been postponed, according to court documents. A federal jury found Rudolph guilty of murdering Bianca Rudolph and of defrauding multiple life insurance companies.

How We Cleared N11bn Salary Arrears, Restored Workers’ Morale – Gov Mutfwang – Lifestyle Nigeria

Gov. Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau, has said that he cleared N11 billion salary arrears he inherited from his predecessor, and restored the morale or workers.

Mutfwang, who stated this at the Workers’ Day celebration on Wednesday in Jos, said that he inherited a civil service on the brink of collapse.

The governor, who was represented by Plateau Head of Service, Mrs Rauta Dakok, said that the government took swift action and established a reliable system for salary disbursement.

He stated that in view of the economic turbulence that followed the removal of the petroleum subsidy, his administration took decisive steps to alleviate the impact and ensure that the welfare of the citizens remained a top priority.

Mutfwang assured the workers and Plateau citizens of his commitment to forge a future where every worker would be treated with the utmost dignity, respect, and fairness.

He further assured Plateau people that his administration was steadfast in its mission to revitalise the civil service and achieve exemplary service delivery.

“We recall our pledge to bolster the capabilities of our civil servants by providing them with the necessary tools to execute government policies effectively.

“Our unwavering commitment to training, staffing excellence, and a merit-based reward system is designed to cultivate an efficient and supportive public service.

“The theme of this year’s International Workers’ Day, “People First,” resonates profoundly with the ethos and principles of our administration, which prioritises the welfare of the people in all our policies and actions.

“Today we pay tribute to our esteemed workers, the bedrock of progress in our society, whose unwavering dedication has significantly contributed to the growth and prosperity of our nation.

“This day provides a reflective platform for workers to contemplate the substantial contributions of the labour force, and to reaffirm their commitment to advocating for their rights, dignity and well-being.

“It is a day dedicated to acknowledging and celebrating the hard work, sacrifices, patriotism, and selflessness that have been instrumental to the development of our country,” Mutfwang stated.

According to Mr Eugene Manji, the Chairman, Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Plateau Council, workers in the state reject in totality the price hike in petroleum products and that of the energy sector, which are the principal ingredients in any country’s development.

Manji, who spoke at the event, said that all policies carried out by successive governments, including the current administration, seemed to inflict more hardship on Nigerians than improved their quality of life.

The chairman said that Nigerian masses were being choked and strangled unnoticed by the very bad policies of the leaders, while workers and citizens were requested to be patient with the government.

“We are asked to farm, but workers have not been provided with fertiliser and other farm inputs.

“Even with the recent fertiliser that was shared by the Government of Plateau, workers were denied access to the inputs, leaving questions about whether the government wants workers to truly engage in farming to complement their lean salary, which does not take them home.

“We call on the Plateau Government and the 17 local government councils, to conclude the payment of the wage award recently agreed upon to all workers without further delay.

“On the issue of promotion to deserving workers, we request that the government set up measures for the immediate conduct of this exercise. Where it has been done, such promotions and yearly increments should immediately be implemented for deserving workers.

“We call on the government to explore every available opportunity for the housing scheme initiated by the past administration to become a reality to benefit workers and citizens of the state,” he said.

Mr Kenneth Shammah, Chairman, Trade Union Congress in Plateau, applauded Mutfwang for the decision to pay workers gratuity from 1986 to date, but announced that retired local government workers had already approached the National Industrial Court (NIC), for the enforcement of the payment of their gratuity.

Shammah appealed to the government not to allow the case to hang in court as it would not do anyone any good; rather, amicable resolution should be pushed until the goal was achieved. (NAN)

Ondo Govt Speaks On Allocating N5bn To Daycare Centre

Lifestyle Nigeria gathered that Following the outcry that greeted the allocation of N5 billion for the renovation of a daycare in the 2024 budget of Ondo State, the state government has described the development as an error.

The Ondo State Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Emmanuel Igbasan, who blamed the printer of the document for the error, stated that it was a mix-up.

Earlier, the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, had accused the state governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, of purportedly using that as an avenue to mop up funds ahead of the forthcoming governorship election.

Igbasan, in a statement, said: “The five billion naira provision was actually meant to reflect the expected drawdown from the Nigerian for Women Project (World Bank supported) which had earlier been captured under the capital receipts of the document.

“The N18 million reported on the Nigerian for Women Project is meant for the renovation of a daycare project. This is a regrettable printer’s interpolation error that occurred during the process of preparing the document for publication.

“At the operational level, this error will not materialise and is almost impossible to detect. The Ministry takes full responsibility for this error and we have immediately set in motion the machinery to have the error corrected.”

How We Will Fund N70k Edo Minimum Wage – Obaseki – Lifestyle Nigeria

The Edo State Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki, has said the N70,000 new minimum wage for workers in the State is within what his administration can afford, noting that the increase became necessary as a result of the current economic realities.

The governor said this while addressing workers during a rally held to mark the May Day celebration at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City.

He praised the workers for the harmonious relationship with his administration, noting that the peaceful disposition of the organised labour in the State with the government has led to several achievements for the State Government.

Obaseki noted, “Two days ago, I announced that we have raised the minimum wage for Edo workers from N40,000 to N70,000 naira, an increase of over 75 per cent. This is because we know and feel the pains and hardship which most of you experience daily.

“Fuel subsidy has been removed. The exchange rate has more than doubled and food prices have gone almost off the roof and most of you find it difficult to feed yourself and your family.

“We are an empathetic government; we can’t say we do not know and if we know, we can’t sit down without doing anything about it. This is why we say even if it’s a strain on us, we should do what we ought to do to increase the minimum wage for our workers.”

He continued: “The N70,000 minimum wage is within what we can afford as a State Government. However, should the Federal government decide on a higher minimum wage and make the funds available to States from the savings which have been made from fuel subsidy, the Edo State Government will adjust its minimum wage to that of the Federal government.

“Your salaries will continue to be paid on or before the 26th day of every month. We would continue to ensure we have an effective health insurance scheme to assist public servants. This scheme has assisted many families. I encourage you to enroll into this scheme.
