Factual Pursuit of Truth for Progress

GOVERNOR Godwin Obaseki has admitted that he is being persuaded to return to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Obaseki, who spoke during a banquet in Benin City, as part of activities for this year’s Alaghodaro Summit, however, said he has no plans to join another political party.

He said his government is committed to ensuring a progressive and prosperous Edo State where all citizens will live life to the fullest.

The governor said, “No matter the persuasion to join any political party, I will not. I will continue to provide leadership for all Edo people. We don’t need to join another political party to develop Edo State into a home for all.

“Our goal is to position Edo where it should be, as our State has been created to provide leadership for this country; that is how it has been and will always be.”

Obaseki said the Alaghodaro Summit had become a platform, which his administration is using to prepare the youths of the for tomorrow’s leadership position.

According to him, “Our politics is being driven by data. We will continue to do our best as a government to make life better for our people who trusted us with their votes.

“In the last five years, we have been laying foundation for the development of Edo State. That era has passed and now, it’s time to move as fast as possible in developing the State as the challenges and barriers have been taken care of.”

Earlier, former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Governor of Edo State, John- Odigie Oyegun commended Obaseki for stemming irregular migration among Edo youths.

According to him, “Today, our youths are no longer traveling through the Mediterranean Sea as you have curbed the menace of irregular migration. Our youths are now being prepared for the future with the use of technology.

“When Edo prospers, the nation will prosper; our artifacts are all over the world, our achievements are all over; this is what Alaghodaro is all about.”

INEC to receive N18bn for Conduct of Imo, Bayelsa, Kogi elections – FG

The Independent National Electoral Commission will get N18bn for the conduct of the Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi governorship elections billed for November 11, 2023.

This was revealed by the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning Atiku Bagudu, saying the fund will be gotten out of the N2.1 trillion 2023 supplementary budget.

“Equally, N18 billion was provided for the Independent National Electoral Commission to support them in the conduct of the Bayelsa, Kogi and Imo elections,” he noted the State House in Abuja following the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting on Monday, October 30.

He said FEC “approved the sum of N2,176,791,286,033 as supplementary budget and this supplementary budget is to fund urgent issues including N605 billion for national defence and security.

“This is to sustain the gains made in security and to accelerate and these are funds that are needed by the security agencies before the year runs out.”

“Equally the sum of N210 billion is provided for the payment of wage Awards. In negotiation with the Nigeria Labour Congress,” Bagudu added.

“The Federal Government agreed to pay N35,000 each to about 1.5 million employees of the Federal Government for September, October, November, and December 2023.

“And that amounts to about N210 billion which has been approved and also N400 billion as Cash Transfer payments.

“You may recall that the Federal Government secured a $800m loan from the World Bank to pay cash transfers of N25,000 to 15 million households. The $800 million is for two months: October and November. The President graciously approved that an additional month should be funded by the federal government and that is what this N100 billion is for.”
