The Victims Support Fund (VSF) has inaugurated the perimeter fences built at police stations and police barracks in Askira – a border town between Borno and Adamawa States.
The Chairman of the VSF, General TY Danjuma (retd.), said the building of the fences followed the request by the Emir of Askira, Alhaji Mai Abdullahi Muhammadu, as part of efforts to fortify them against attacks.
The VSF chairman represented by the VSF Executive Director, Prof. Nana Tanko, reiterated the commitment of the VSF to supporting victims of terrorism and insurgency by the mandate of the fund.
“The mission and responsibility of the Victims Support Fund are to help in early recovery i.e. to help people after the insurgency to rebuild their lives. That is why in the past, we have built several primary schools, supported children to go back to school, trained teachers to make sure that children are well taught, empowered women to rebuild their lives and supported farmers to go back to their farms in Askira,” he said.
The governor of Borno State, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, represented by the Commissioner for Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (RRR), Mustapha Gubio, commended the VSF for ensuring that distressed communities in Borno State were resettled and for supporting the relocation of 80,000 IDPs to their ancestral homes in 13 local government areas of the state.
