IPOB orders total lockdown in Southeast Tuesday

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has declared a sit-at-home across the Southeast next Tuesday.

IPOB tagged the sit-at-home, a day of civil action across the Southeast.

The group declared the order ahead of the Appeal Court hearing of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, and President Muhammadu Buhari’s planned visit to Imo State coinciding on Tuesday, September 13.

A statement by IPOB’s spokesman, Emma Powerful, said the sit-at-home would be a total lockdown of the Southeast.

IPOB explained that it was implementing the existing sit-at-home order regarding Kanu’s court appearance.

The statement read in part: “The global family and movement of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) under the command and leadership of our indefatigable liberator Mazi Nnamdi Okwuchukwu Kanu, wish to announce to the general public, especially Biafrans that Tuesday 13th of September has been declared a day of civil action in the form of sit-at-home in Biafra Land.

“The Tuesday 13th September, 2022 civil action is very important for two reasons:

“First, our leader’s Appeal court hearing that was supposed to be on October 11th has been brought forward to 13th September, 2022. As usual we call on Biafrans and lovers of freedom to demonstrate our solidarity with our leader who has been bearing our yoke in detention for over a year now.

[BREAKING] APC Crisis: Adamu Finally Breaks Silence Over ‘Controversial Resignation’

Lifestyle Nigeria gathered that Following his alleged resignation as National Chairman of his ruling All Progressives Congress APC, Senator Abdullahi Adamu has now broken his silence on the matter.

According  to Vanguard, ahead of this week’s meeting of the National Caucus and National Executive Committee NEC of the APC, there is a gang up of opposition against Senator Adamu and National Secretary of the party, Senator Iyiola Omisore.

Vanguard gathered that some bigwigs of the party had been going about with a list of alleged “sins” committed by Adamu against Asiwaju Bola Tinubu weeks before the latter declared his interest to vie for the presidency last year.

“Consequently, there are some forces within the party who are likely to meet with Adamu on Sunday night or early Monday to pressure him into resigning rather than been shown the exit door” said a party official privy to the internal workings of the party.

He said the NEC meeting slated for Tuesday is likely to approve a timetable for a midterm elective convention to fill party vacancies.

“As you know, many of the new state governors have not made all their appointments. Even at that, some party officials have been appointed into government.

“At the national level, it is very likely that some national officers or members of the National Working Committee NWC would be appointed into government. Once that is done, there will be vacancies which would be filled through the convention.

The convention could also provide a window to get Adamu out”, said the party source.

According to him, the move to oust Adamu would also see Omisore being eased out of the equation as some aggrieved members of the NWC have consistently accused him of running the party alone with Adamu.

He said the controversial audit report of the party would be part of the issues to use against Adamu.

“Under our constitution, only the NEC of the party can appoint an external auditor to audit the accounts of the party but Adamu, after being forced to render financial accounts, decided to enlist his own auditor, bypassing NEC. He thereafter presented the report of his auditors to the NWC for ratification. The party has an auditor. Adamu should simply have allowed him to do his job and present his report to the NWC. After that, the NWC will go through the report of the National Auditor, deliberate on it and present to NEC, which has the powers to appoint an external auditor to go through our accounts. But this has not been the case”, the source added.

Indeed, there were speculations on Sunday night that Adamu had “resigned in principle” even before the said meeting.

While he did not respond to messages seeking his confirmation of the report, party spokesman, Felix Morka also went mute on the issue.

‘We can’t comment in what we don’t know’

An NWC member said they, like other party men and women, were also shocked by the report of Adamu’s resignation and that they cannot comment on what they have no knowledge of.

“As expected, the NWC is supposed to meet on Monday ahead of Tuesday’s Caucus meeting and Wednesday’s NEC meeting. Adamu hasn’t told us anything about his resignation or otherwise”.

Contacted by Daily Trust, Adamu declined comments pending the return of President Bola Tinubu from the African Union AU meeting in Kenya.

“I won’t talk about the issue because the president is away,” Adamu said.

APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu, Reportedly Resigns

Sen Abdullahi Adamu, the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has reportedly tendered his resignation.

DailyTrust rpeorts that Adamu tendered his resignation on Sunday night, July 16.

Accoridng to the report, Adamu, who emerged as the national chairman at the party’s national convention held in March 2022, sent his resignation letter to the Presidential Villa, Abuja ahead of the return of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu from the African Union (AU) meeting in Kenya.

One of the sources said Adamu, a former governor of Nasarawa State, sent the letter to the Chief of Staff of the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, around 4pm on Sunday.

“He has resigned. The resignation letter signed by him has been sent to the villa. The letter was addressed to President Tinubu. But since the president is away in Kenya for the AU meeting, the letter was sent to his chief of staff,
” a source said

Also, a source close to Adamu reportedly corroborated this, adding that:

“The national chairman resigned following a gang up by people around the president to embarrass him during the meetings of the party slated for tomorrow and Wednesday.”

The source, however, denied a report that it was President Tinubu that asked Adamu to resign ahead of the National Caucus and National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings of the party slated for tomorrow and Wednesday. The party had fixed July 10 and 11 for its National Caucus and NEC meetings to iron out critical issues affecting it and the crisis within the National Working Committee (NWC).

However, the meetings were later postponed and rescheduled for tomorrow and Wednesday.

A founding member of the party said Adamu resigned when he got wind that two influential personalities around the president had mobilised against him ahead of the meetings.

“He resigned because they have started to collate signatures to impeach him during the forthcoming meetings. He resigned to save himself from humiliation,” the top politician said

When contacted, Adamu told this paper that he will not comment on the matter until President Tinubu returns from the AU’s meeting.

“I won’t talk about the issue because the president is away,” Adamu who was the preferred candidate of former President Muhammadu Buhari for the chairmanship seat, said
