John Lyon: From Bank Dispatch Rider To Dollar Waving Kidnap Kingpin (Update) – Lifestyle Nigeria
John Lyon, real names, John Ewa, the dollar waving kidnap kingpin behind a series of high profile kidnap incidents in Bayelsa State has been moved to the state from Abuja even as more details of his exploits have emerged.
The suspect was a dispatch rider at Sterling bank before he was sacked due alleged involvement in criminal activities at the bank.
Findings indicated while working at the bank Ewa had run several errands for his superior which gave him access to privileged information which was supplied to criminal elements to carry out operations.
After Sterling Bank terminated his appointment, John Lyon was said to have recruited boys to run a kidnap syndicate with specialisation in kidnapping high profile residents of the state with him as kingpin.
According to investigations, operatives of Puff Adder got on the trail of Ewa after the arrest of two suspects, Kingsley Innocent and Godlives Donald involved in the kidnap of Mr Danjuma Emeije, a manager with Premium Trust Bank Yenagoa.
Emeije was kidnapped on June 30, 2022 and was released after he was said to have parted with a ransom of 50 Million.
Police sources said Ewa, who runs Lyon Interior hub as cover for his criminal activities, is known for his lavish lifestyle and heavy spending at night clubs in Yenagoa.
He was said to have masterminded the kidnap of the sister to former governor Seriake Dickson and top Igbo businessmen forcing many of them to relocate from the state.
During interrogation, police sources said Ewa (John Lyon) confessed to have been involved in only two kidnap incidents and denied being part of the gang that kidnapped Danjuma or even being the kingpin.
In a viral Update, Ewa in handcuffs wearing a boxer at the premises of Operation Puff Adder Yenagoa was seen begging the Police officers to forgive him, noting that his wife just gave birth
“I was not involved in your kidnap (referring to the Danjuma). There is a guy they always call for a job, his name is Millow. Please sir, forgive me. I was not involved in your matter. Please Sir my wife just gave birth,” he said.
Police sources said Ewa had gone to Premium Trust Bank pretending to be making inquiries on opening an account for his children but was actually gathering information about Danjuma.
Danjuma who was also at the premises of Puff Adder insisted that he could recognise Ewa as one of the kidnappers who was on a couch while his gang members were brutalizing him.
A Police source said a close friend of Ewa, who is an in-law of a governorship candidate of one of the major political parties in the state, is also in police custody answering questions on the kidnap incidents in the state.
The source also hinted that barring any change of plans, Ewa should be paraded before the media this week bringing to an end the era of John Lyon as a kidnap kingpin.

Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal will on October 26 begin a full hearing of the petition filed by Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC) against the declaration of Senator Ademola Adeleke as governor-elect.
Lifestyle Nigeria reports that the tribunal made this pronouncement after concluding the pre-hearing session on Thursday.
The tribunal was asked to dismiss the applications of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), seeking the discontinuation of the petition brought to it by Governor Oyetola.
Counsel for Oyetola and the APC, Lasun Sanusi, SAN, at the sitting of the tribunal argued that Adeleke’s, PDP’s and INEC’s reliance on a Federal Court High judgment was nothing but an abuse of court process.
Sanusi argued this while replying to separate applications of the trio, seeking the dismissal of the petition based on the already appealed Federal High Court judgment disqualifying Oyetola from contesting the election.
Citing Supreme Court decisions in the case of Jegede Vs INEC, 2021, 14NWLR, Pt 1797, page 409, the counsel said the court had ruled that the signatories to the letter conveying the nomination of a candidate were not the nominators; rather, the nomination was done by party members at the congress, hence, the judgment could not stand.
Meanwhile, the counsel for INEC, Prof. Paul Ananaba, SAN; counsel for Adeleke, Onyechi Ikpeazu, SAN and counsel for the PDP, Dr. Alex Izinyon, SAN, agreed that any decision the tribunal would take on the matter would have to wait until the Appeal Court and the Supreme Court decided on it.
They noted that they just decided to argue the applications to have it on record, a position which the tribunal agreed with and put on record.
Also, in other applications totalling nine by the three respondents, they asked the tribunal to strike out some paragraphs of the petition on the grounds that they were either lumped together or not related to the 2022 election.
In response to each of the applications, Sanusi said all the cases cited by the respondents were misconceived, adding that they were not applicable in the instance case.
He cited the case of INEC Vs Otti, 2016, 8NWLR, where the Supreme Court hinted that INEC was supposed to be neutral, arguing that all the processes filed before the panel have not portrayed the commission’s neutrality.
Sanusi further argued that the applications filed by the respondents were only meant to prevent the tribunal from focusing on hearing the petition on merit, asking the panel to dismiss the applications.
Subsequently, counsel for all parties in the matter agreed to begin the full hearing starting with the calling of witnesses on October 26.
In his ruling, the tribunal declared the pre-hearing session concluded and announced that the pre-hearing conference report would be presented on October 17.
