The truth an beauty of Kizz Daniel’s music is based on two quintessential factors. One, against the idea pushed by certain critics that this new kid who was screaming Laye and Woju was going to be a one-hit wonder. One who would just romanticize the ears of the audience for a short while before fading into obscurity, he has grown to become a force to be reckoned with in the music industry.

Interestingly, that has not been the case as Kizz Daniel has overtime shown that he has a lot of talent up his sleeves and that he knows how to deliver to an audience that enjoys  his sound.

To prove his artistry, Kizz Daniel went on to release an album, No Bad Songs and that laced and cemented his place as an artiste whose sound you’ll never get tired of.

In King of Love album, the artiste brings a number of issues about love and relationship to the fore. He discusses financial obligations in a relationship, the insecurity that often exists and the ‘gassing up’ – a term becoming increasingly popular due to social media which refers to hyping and flattering of one’s lover.

The album which is a 17-track project and strangely has no feature is well balanced, because as Kizz Daniel sings for the ladies, he also sings for the guys, revealing what each gender suffers and how they react to troubles in relationships.

Jaho which was released as a single and produced by DJ Coublon is a beautiful work with strong percussion beats. He sings for the grace of God to take him higher. This song would definitely have slapped with the feature of the duo Boj and Ajebutter.

Ada continues to dwell heavily on the percussion feel. It has an Igbo vibe and perhaps an addition of the Igbo flute to the track would have made it more obvious. And yes, with this song, Vado is likely to get married anytime from now.

Boys are Bad is an Afropop song that opens with the sentence, “If you leave, I’ll swear for you.” Really? Someone, call Kizz and ask if everything is okay with Ada.

We wan Comot is another interesting track on the album. As the name implies, Kizz Daniel is telling his lover that she should dress up and get ready because today “we get paro.”

Aii is a song that is meant to tickle the ears of the lady. This song should have been released while I was still an undergraduate and I had all the liberty to actively pursue women. It would have helped my ratings. And for the ladies, please, don’t look his eyes.

Pak ‘n’ Go is easily one of the favorite track on the album. In this song, Vado is running from materialistic women, who are sadly never satisfied with whatever their mam offers or brings to the table.

Need Somebody is a beautiful song. It is what in street terms you’ll refer to as just vibes. Just vibes. Here, Kizz Daniel explains his financial state to his lover and asks if she would accept him that way.

Tempted to steal is a beautiful guitar-laced song that talks about a man who is willing to do anything for his lover, even to the point of robbing a store. Sadly, he is shot and also jailed. The sad reality broke men have to face for their lovers. Somebody, open a WhatsApp group for single men to share their experience.

Chek is that song which solidifies this writer’s opinion that Nigerian artistes have unlocked the secrets of singing songs about lust, sex and passionate romance with every trace of subtlety. It is an eclectic song. There’s very little to be said about Yapa. If you think that’s a lie, “you can Google me.”

Fvvk You is where Kizz Daniel finally tells us who he is and unveils the facade hiding his true intentions. He is that man with a harem of women at his neck and call. Fvck You remains one of the biggest songs of 2020, creating a string of challenges and remixes that a number of artistes jumped on. Young John deserves applause for this beat.

The next track, One Day makes me want to send a meme to Kizz Daniel and his team, because while it is a good track, as we say in Pidgin English, “we no need am.” Find a Bae is obviously a message to all the single young men who should not be alone. It has a very interesting vibe, and when Vado says “ever since I don dey find, I never see Sisi I like.” Somebody, post that Future meme and give a misogynistic laughter.

Padi sounds like something from Ajegunle ghetto genre which sadly has been eliminated. It is a nice experimental song, and again, Kizz Daniel reminds you why he is a fuck boy.

Chana is an Afro RnB song laced with romantic words and poetic proclamations for his lover. The beauty of this song lies in the lyrics. Pipa is in this writer’s opinion unnecessary and uncalled for.

Hook is a beautiful way to end an album. It has a juxtaposition of a rap and a freestyle feel. It is interesting to watch Vado weave in and out of this song. It would have slapped harder if it had a rapper like Kida Kudz on it.

One thing Kizz Daniel sells his musical comprehension and sonic synergy on every of his project. This is by a long shot, the best Afro-Pop song from Nigeria in 2020. Kizz Daniel understands the market place, the audience need and he sings with that in mind.

King of Love album could have done without a number of tracks and in this writer’s opinion, 17 tracks seems like over-doing it. However, it would take anyone who listens closely to music to notice that some of the tracks that are not necessary do not sync into the feel and energy of the album.

King of Love must however be applauded for discussing a wide range of topics, balancing the acts between both gender and bringing the part of his Yoruba demon side out. For those who might feel uncomfortable about how the women in the songs are viewed as the true picture of the ‘I just want to relass and be taken kiaoff’. Yes, it is what happens and what’s more? The game is the game!

I rate it an 8/10.
