NANS urge Buhari to meet with ASUU in person over ongoing strike

President Muhammadu Buhari has been requested by the newly elected National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) to personally arrange a meeting with members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to discuss ending the protracted strike action by university lecturers.

In order to satisfy the UNESCO benchmark and suggestion that developing countries devote 26% of their yearly budgets to education, NANS also pleaded with the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, to step up his efforts in this direction.

The newly elected president of the association, Comrade Umar Barambu who disclosed this at a press conference on Monday in Abuja NANS also called on the president to immediately sack the present ‘non-performing’ service chiefs with a view towards overhauling and rejigging the entire security formation of the country.

The student body also advised Buhari to bring on board capable and digital hands with
experience and capacity to stem the tide of insecurity in the country.

“The Federal Government should also proffer a workable and solution to address incessant clashes between farmers and herders across the country.

Barambu, a student of Economics and Development Studies of the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria was over the weekend officially declared NANS President at the old parade ground in Abuja.

Tunde Onakoya Becomes Chess Ambassador

Ogun State Governor, Southwest Nigeria Dapo Abiodun has declared Chess master and Guinness World record breaker, Tunde Onakoya, the ambassador for chess in the state.

Lifestyle Nigeria reports that In a series of tweets on his X handle, Dapo announced the appointment while playing host to the chess master on Thursday, April 25.

He wrote: “We welcomed Mr. #Tunde_OD, the National Master of Chess and #GWR holder for the longest chess marathon. Beyond chess, he founded ‘Chess in Slums Africa’ to inspire and uplift underprivileged children.

“Today, we appointed him as our State Sports Ambassador as Ogun State prepares to host the National Sports Festival in nine months, where chess will be featured. In his honour, we are launching the Ogun State Chess Competition, which Mr. Onakoya will design.”

Nazeer friend burger – .

A young man, Daniyal Nazeer, has allegedly shot his friend dead for taking a bite out of his lover’s burger in Pakistan.

The suspect who has been identified as the son of retired Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Nazir Ahmed Mirbahar, is believed to have attacked his friend after an argument broke out at the accused’s house in Karachi.

An inquiry into the event which occurred on February 8 concluded on Wednesday that Ali Keerio, the son of a sessions judge, was likely shot with a guard’s rifle after brazenly daring to take a large chunk out of Nazeer’s girlfriend’s burger.

The accused was reported to have ordered two ‘zinger burgers’ for himself and his partner, Shazia, before Nazeer was sent into a rage over his friend’s indiscretion.

Keerio sustained ‘severe injuries’ after be- ing shot, per local media, and succumbed to his wounds on the way to hospital.

Following a probe lasting more than two months, investigators concluded that the police officer’s son had likely lashed out over the burger incident.

‘Daniyal got into a serious fight with Ali over why he ate half of the burger without permission which was ordered for his girlfriend Shazia, the investigating officer confirmed, as reported by The Week.

‘We have arrested the accused and he is in jail pending trial, the officer added.

Demolition Of Buildings For Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road Begins 

 

Lifestyle Nigeria gathered that the Federal Government has announced that the demolition of buildings situated within the right of way of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road will commence this coming Saturday.

According to Channels Television’ on Thursday, the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, Korede Keisha, disclosed this during a press briefing held in Lagos on Thursday.

Keisha urged all residents whose houses have been earmarked for demolition to visit the ministry’s secretariat in Lagos to address any necessary procedures required by the ministry.

She stated that the demolition team would commence the removal of the marked properties on Saturday.

Keisha said, “So this press briefing is just to create awareness for all those that may be involved or have one or two things to do along that project corridor.

“We’ve sent out demolition notices to as many as are within the right of way and we are using this medium now to say that everyone that has any concern within that corridor and have been served, the secretariat is opened to them from today, 3pm.
