NEWS UPDATE?’I killed Ataga Alone’ – Chidinma Confesses In Update Played In

Chidinma Ojukwu, the undergraduate charged with the murder of Usifo Ataga, the CEO of Super TV, confessed to the crime in a Update played at High Court sitting in Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria.

Lifestyle Nigeria earlier reported that Ojukwu and Adedapo Quadri are standing trial for Ataga’s murder.

On Tuesday, Ojukwu and her sister, Chioma Egbuchu, who is accused of stealing Ataga’s iPhone 7 were arraigned at the Lagos High Court in Tafawa Balewa Square.

During the court session, a Update recording showing the lifeless body of Ataga was played.

According to NAN, in the clip, Ataga’s body was seen lying on the ground facing up, with his hands spread.

The Super TV CEO was wearing a white singlet and boxer’s pants stained with blood.

His head was close to a wall at the short-service apartment where he was allegedly murdered on June 15, 2021.

In the same compact disc, a Update showing Ojukwu narrating how she murdered Ataga was played.

In the Update, Olusegun Bamidele, the ninth prosecution witness in the murder trial, from the intelligence and tactical unit of the State Criminal Investigating Department, Panti Yaba, was seen interrogating Ojukwu.

In her account, Ojukwu recalled how she met Ataga through a friend.

The undergraduate said on June 13, 2021, the deceased called her and asked her to get a place for them to stay, and she got the short let service apartment where he died.

She said in the Update, “After I got the place on Sunday, we were smoking loud, drinking, watching movies. Then, I went to get food, the drug we were taking got finished and I ordered another one and went downstairs to get it from the delivery guy in the morning.

”Then, on Tuesday, we drank, smoke loud and I added Rophynol to his drink. We had sex, and I was on the bed and he was on a chair.

“Later, he started disturbing me for more sex. I was tired, and after struggling with him, he had his way and still wanted more.

“He was no longer himself, and I thought he was no more interested in sex, only for him to return to the bed to ask for more.

“I pushed him away which resulted in his hitting his head against a stool that had a glass, he had a cut on his leg and he became weak.”

Ojukwu said she then took a knife and stabbed Ataga in the neck, ribs, and stomach, so he would not be able to harm her.

She added, “I tied his hands with a handkerchief. His blood was out and I was scared. I just packed everything, my clothes was also stained with blood, I just packed my things and left.

“I took the knife and handkerchief, and when I got home, I threw the knife and handkerchief away.

“Michael was a friend. I didn’t know him that deeply, and we didn’t talk regularly.”

When she was asked in the Update if she was assisted in killing the deceased, Ojukwu said, “There was nobody that assisted me, I did it alone.”

When further asked why she didn’t call for help, she said, “Obviously I was scared, that was why I left.”

Ojukwu said that there was no motive behind her killing Ataga.

After the Update was played, Adenike Oluwafemi, the prosecution witness, reminded the witness (Bamidele) of his evidence on May 10, when he said that he recovered some items from the defendant’s house.

She also prayed for the court to admit them in evidence.

However, C.C. Ezebube, Ojukwu’s lawyer, objected to the admissibility of the items.

Ezebube said the custody of the items was not specified before the court – from the moment of recovery to that of tendering them before the court.

In her ruling, Justice Yetunde Adesanya dismissed the objection and admitted the items in evidence.

The case was then adjourned until Wednesday for the continuation of trial.

News Update?Osun Governorship Election Petition Tribunal Sitting Begins October 26

Latest Politics updatein nigeria

Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal will on October 26 begin a full hearing of the petition filed by Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC) against the declaration of Senator Ademola Adeleke as governor-elect.

Lifestyle Nigeria reports that the tribunal made this pronouncement after concluding the pre-hearing session on Thursday.

The tribunal was asked to dismiss the applications of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), seeking the discontinuation of the petition brought to it by Governor Oyetola.

Counsel for Oyetola and the APC, Lasun Sanusi, SAN, at the sitting of the tribunal argued that Adeleke’s, PDP’s and INEC’s reliance on a Federal Court High judgment was nothing but an abuse of court process.

Sanusi argued this while replying to separate applications of the trio, seeking the dismissal of the petition based on the already appealed Federal High Court judgment disqualifying Oyetola from contesting the election.

Citing Supreme Court decisions in the case of Jegede Vs INEC, 2021, 14NWLR, Pt 1797, page 409, the counsel said the court had ruled that the signatories to the letter conveying the nomination of a candidate were not the nominators; rather, the nomination was done by party members at the congress, hence, the judgment could not stand.

Meanwhile, the counsel for INEC, Prof. Paul Ananaba, SAN; counsel for Adeleke, Onyechi Ikpeazu, SAN and counsel for the PDP, Dr. Alex Izinyon, SAN, agreed that any decision the tribunal would take on the matter would have to wait until the Appeal Court and the Supreme Court decided on it.

They noted that they just decided to argue the applications to have it on record, a position which the tribunal agreed with and put on record.

Also, in other applications totalling nine by the three respondents, they asked the tribunal to strike out some paragraphs of the petition on the grounds that they were either lumped together or not related to the 2022 election.

In response to each of the applications, Sanusi said all the cases cited by the respondents were misconceived, adding that they were not applicable in the instance case.

He cited the case of INEC Vs Otti, 2016, 8NWLR, where the Supreme Court hinted that INEC was supposed to be neutral, arguing that all the processes filed before the panel have not portrayed the commission’s neutrality.

Sanusi further argued that the applications filed by the respondents were only meant to prevent the tribunal from focusing on hearing the petition on merit, asking the panel to dismiss the applications.

Subsequently, counsel for all parties in the matter agreed to begin the full hearing starting with the calling of witnesses on October 26.

In his ruling, the tribunal declared the pre-hearing session concluded and announced that the pre-hearing conference report would be presented on October 17.
