Nollywood Produces 280 Movies In Q12023 – NFVCB – Independent Newspaper Nigeria

ABUJA – Alhaji Adedayo Thomas, Executive Director/CEO of National Film and Update Censors Board(NFVCB) has hinted that the board received and censored a total number of 280 movies produced by the Nigerian film industry in the first quarter of the year 2023.

He made this known in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja, saying, the figure was made available by the Department of Film Censorship and Classification of the board in its first quarter report for the year, which captures all films submitted to the board from across the country.

The report is for onward submission to the relevant Federal Government agency as input for the compilation of the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for the first quarter (Q1, 2023).

The report shows a decrease in the number of movies produced from 340 in the fourth quarter 0f 2022 to 280 in the first quarter of 2023, which represents about 18 percent downward slope.

According to the statement, 106 of the films came in from the Lagos Censorship Centre of the Board, representing the chunk of the movies produced during the period under review, and followed by Abuja with 99 movies.

As indicated in the report, Onitsha is next with 32 films, Abeokuta raked in 3 films, Kano 15 and Benin 1 only.

The analysis by censorship location further shows that Jos recorded 14 films, Port Harcourt 8, while Ibadan and Kaduna recorded 1 film respectively.

APC chieftain slumps, dies in church

A top chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State, Chief Obinna Atuonwu has passed away.

He died on Sunday, 21st April, 2024 during a church service at the age of 65.

According to ABNTV, the late Atuonwu had attended a church service in Aba; the commercial capital of the state and was addressing the congregation when he collapsed.

Narrating how the incident happened, the only brother of the deceased, Dr. Chiedozie Atuonu said that on that fateful day, he got a call to rush to Aba from Umuahia where he was.

According to him, the caller told him that his late brother was feeling critically ill and needed urgent medical attention.

According to him, upon arrival, he discovered that his brother’s condition was critical and he was rushed to hospital where he was confirmed dead.

Mohbad’s widow Wunmi finally served DNA Application request by Court

Omowunmi, the widow of the late singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba aka Mohbad, has finally been served with a court order for a DNA test following long months of being unable to reach her.

The Chief Magistrate Court in Ikorodu granted the order, necessitating the notice of the pending DNA test application to be served to Omowunmi.

According to the legal team, attempts by the court’s sheriff to serve Omowunmi the court process were unsuccessful twice. Consequently, the Chief Magistrate ordered that Omowunmi should be served by posting the court process at her last known address.

An update confirms that the court order has now been successfully delivered to Omowunmi, as the court order letter was affixed to her house gate.

Following Mohbad’s demise, there has been a call from various quarters, including Mohbad’s father, for a DNA test to ascertain the paternity of Liam, his son.

Omawunmi had previously stated her refusal to conduct a DNA test for her son, citing her own reasons and asserting her rights.
