Ismail Omipidan, the Chief Press Secretary to the Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, has notified the general public to discard a video going viral on social media purporting that Governor Oyetola was attacked in Osogbo during Eid prayers.

He said the video in circulation was that of an incident during the 2020 nationwide #EndSARS protest.

Omipidan, in a statement titled: ‘Osun PDP agents spreading fake video,’ obtained on Sunday, July 10, said his principal was not attacked on Eid praying ground.

He further noted that the spreading of the video was an indication that the Peoples Democratic Party was jittery about the impending defeat at the July 16 governorship poll.

The statement read in part;

This is to alert the people of Osun and the general public to the circulation of a fake video of purported attack on Governor Adegboyega Oyetola’s convoy on the Osogbo Eid praying ground today (Saturday).

The video is being circulated by unscrupulous agents of the sinking PDP in Osun, in further demonstration of their political desperation. The PDP should know that there’s no amount of lies and propaganda that can make its candidate win the forthcoming governorship election.

Oyetola further stressed;

For the avoidance of doubt, the said video in circulation is that of an incident during the 2020 nationwide #EndSARS protest. There was no attack on Governor Oyetola’s convoy or on any individual before, during and after the Eid prayers on the Osogbo praying ground.

But when contacted, the Director of Media and Publicity in Osun PDP, Oladele Oluwabamiji, said the party was not circulating any false video about Oyetola.

He, however, insisted that the video remained a “sad reminder that Oyetola was never accepted as governor in the state. The video was not manufactured. The incident happened. We didn’t spread it and so we should not be linked to it. It has always been on the internet.
