Police Arrest ESN Commander, Notorious Kidnapper In Imo State

The Imo State Police Command has arrested Mr. Ikechukwu Uba, a leader of the Eastern Security Network (ESN).

In a statement issued on Thursday, Imo Police Command spokesman Henry Okoye said that Uba was apprehended in Oru West LGA of Imo State by operatives of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad headed by CSP Oladimeji Odeyeyiwa.

The Command caught Uba and three other suspects when they assaulted the hideaway on December 16, according to a police spokeswoman. Okoye went on to say that the suspect admitted to being a member of the ESN.

The statement read, “On interrogation, the suspect confessed to being a member of the Eastern Security Network (ESN) Terrorist group, commanding Mgbidi axis and stated further that he masterminded the attacks on Omuma Police Station and soldiers at Mgbidi and Awo-Mmama, narrating further that he receives funding from the Finland-based Simon Ekpa to carry out Terrorist attacks in the State.

“The suspects provided useful information to the determined operatives that led to the arrest of one of their alleged sponsors, HRH EZE Anozie Augustine Agbarambo ‘m’, 51 yrs, the Traditional Ruler of Isi Mgbidi, Emoha Mgbidi autonomous community. Two locally made revolver long guns, one double barrel long gun, and 33 rounds of live Cartridges were recovered from his house during an intense search. Investigation is in progress and the suspects will be arraigned in court upon completion of a diligent investigation.”

Okoye, in the statement, further detailed that the police also arrested a notorious kidnapper, Sylvester Humble. The Imo police spokesman detailed that the suspect admitted to being a member of a notorious kidnapping syndicate that has been terrorizing residents of Nekekde and Ihiagwa in Imo State.

He said if Obi had cautioned his followers, he would not have dealt with him the way he is doing now.

Omokri said Obi kept quiet and even subtly encouraged them in their dastardly act.

Omokri wrote: “If this man had only condemned his Obidients when they threatened my one-year-old daughter’s life, I would not have dealt with him like this.

“But he kept quiet and even subtly encouraged them. You guys rightly condemn the bullying at Lead British School. What about what Obidients did to my one-year-old daughter?

EFCC chairman appoints chief of staff

The executive chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ola Olukoyede, has appointed Michael Nzekwe as his chief of staff.

The EFCC boss also appointed zonal directors for each of the 14 Zonal Commands of the commission.

Mr Nzekwe, an investigator, lawyer and former commander of the Ilorin Zonal Command of the EFCC, is a course one officer of the commission.

He has served in various departments in the commission, including Legal and Prosecution Department, Department of Operations (now Department of Investigations), Department of Internal Affairs (now Department of Ethics and Integrity), Servicom, and Asset Forfeiture Department.

As an administrator, he has attended several trainings and courses home and abroad, including the Advance Defence Intelligence Officers Course organised by Defence Intel Agency, DIA. The appointment takes immediate effect and he has assumed duties.

Mr Olukoyede, in his restructuring and repositioning of the EFCC, equally upgraded all the zonal commands of the commission to the status of departments, with each of them headed by a director.

To this effect, 14 new directors have been appointed to head each of the Zonal Commands.
