The DMW singer Mayorkun won the award for the Best Street-Hop artiste with his 2020 hit song “Geng”. CDQ berated the organisers of the award show that Mayorkun has no business being in that category talkless of winning it. He went on to allege during his recent interview with Punch News, that there’s a lot of corruption going on in the industry and occultism is quite popular in too.

CDQ told PUNCH,

“I was not there (at the awards show). I was in Kwara State for the launch of my foundation. I was watching the television in my hotel room when I saw the nominees for the Street Hop category? Naira Marley, Reminisce, Olamide and Mayorkun. To my utmost surprise, the award was given to Mayorkun. Do the organisers have any conscience at all? I am not sure anyone has had as much ‘street hop’ songs as Naira Marley in the past two years. Why would they, all of a sudden, give the award to Mayorkun, who is a singer and not even an indigenous rapper? However, it is not about him being a singer. We all know Naira Marley has many street hop songs.”

CDQ also maintained that there was a lot of politics in the Nigerian music industry.
He added, “There is a lot of politics in the industry and we all know that. Some engage in occultism and if one does not belong to their clique, they would not recognise one. They believe one has to belong to them or be under their shoes. At the end of the day, realness wins, because as long as one does not stop, one’s talent would come to light and no man would be able to stop one.”

Asked if he was under pressure to get married, the 35-year-old rapper said, “I am not under pressure to get married. Marriage is not something anyone should be pressured into. That has caused a lot of issues for many people who thought they needed to get married at all cost or at a particular age. Meanwhile, marriage should come naturally. No man can pressure me to do anything.”
