Ibadan Explosion: FG Awaits Forensic Probe Results – Commits to Addressing National Resource Security

The Ministry of Solid Minerals, under the Federal Government’s directive, is waiting for the findings of a forensic investigation into the recent Ibadan explosion.

Lifestyle Nigeria reports that in a statement signed by Special Assistant on Media to the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Segun Tomori, the Ministry is waiting for the outcome of the forensic investigation ordered to ascertain the actual cause of the tragic explosion that rocked Ibadan, Oyo State capital last week.

The statement revealed that President Bola Tinubu, in collaboration with Minister of Solid Minerals Dr Dele Alake, expressed condolences and initiated a comprehensive inter-ministerial committee to address national resource security challenges.

Dr Alake, actively coordinating with security agencies, assures the public of the government’s commitment to addressing root challenges and awaits the outcome of the investigation before making definitive statements.

The inter-ministerial committee is diligently working to provide a robust report to the President, emphasising the importance of allowing security agencies to conduct thorough investigations.

The statement reads in part:

“The Ministry also deployed Mine Inspectorate officers to the scene of the explosion to join other security agencies to unravel the cause of the explosion.

“The Federal Government is now waiting for the outcome of forensic investigations that will determine the real cause of the blast, the explosives type that triggered it and the circumstances leading to the unfortunate incident that led to the loss of lives and properties.

“Alongside the press statement personally signed by Dr Alake to convey his deepest sympathies to the people of Oyo State, he has also been at the forefront of working with the security agencies to unearth the cause and put mechanisms in place to avert a recurrence.

“Last week Wednesday during the Federal Executive Council meeting, President Bola Tinubu took a step to holistically address insecurity around our nation’s natural resources by constituting an inter-ministerial committee led by Dr Alake to come up with a blueprint to effectively and efficiently secure solid minerals, forests, and marine economy, which constitutes Nigeria’s natural resources.

“The committee held a maiden meeting last Friday and has been working round the clock to draw up strategies for achieving the presidential mandate. In the coming days, there will be an expanded meeting with heads of security agencies, which will assist the committee in getting the requisite inputs to guide it in turning in a robust report to the President.

“The Minister assures Nigerians that the Federal Government is committed to addressing challenges from the root, hence its resolve to await the outcome of painstaking forensic investigations on the Ibadan explosion before making a definite pronouncement.

“The honourable Minister believes that in sensitive situations like this, the security agencies should be allowed to do their job, as against acting on speculations. That way, the people are better informed, culprits can be brought to book, and concerted efforts can be put in place to avoid a recurrence.”

Former Buhari Aide Under Fire After ‘Exposing’ Wike – Lifestyle Nigeria

In a tweet directed at the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, Ahmad Bashir, who served as social media aide to former President Muhammadu Buhari, voiced concerns about the lack of adequate street lighting in various prominent districts of Abuja.

Bashir pointed out that areas like Wuse, Maitama, Asokoro, Garki, and the Central Business District are notably dark and potentially dangerous at night, urging immediate action to address the issue.

See his post below;

The post, however, sparked a heated discussion among netizens, with many taking issue with the timing of the post by Bashir Ahmad directed at Wike.

A significant portion of the online community accused him of hypocrisy, questioning why he had not raised the matter during the eight-year tenure of his former boss, President Buhari.

Critics argued that highlighting the problem now seemed politically motivated, raising doubts about the sincerity of the concern.

Read some netizens reactions to the post by Bashir Ahmad on Wike below;

Haadijimoh: Bashir, you are becoming a noise and it will be better you thread carefully.

You left Aso Rock 7 months ago, where you were so silent on areas where the government could not maintain control. I’m quite certain that the immediate past minister for FCT served for 8 years without you making comments like thisAre you suggesting that this darkness only surfaced within this short period of timeIf former aides to the president were to be vocal and become sudden activist, it shouldn’t be you, who only prioritizes your functions into Arewa, Islam, and Real Madrid.

Royaltyuso: While your point is valid, Abuja is just as dark as it has been under the eight years of Buhari. Who shut your mouth from giving the same advice between 2015 to 2023?

@AyodejiGatsby: Wawu!!! You didn’t notice this throughout the 8 years that you worked in the Villa while we had the most useless FCT minister in the history of this country? Wow!!!

@Rralqueenbee: AN ADVICE FOR YOUIf you know the way you’ve been quiet throughout Buhari’s disastrous 8 years, better remain that way.Else…

In the midst of the online discourse, Wike, who currently serves as the FCT Minister under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, finds himself under increased scrutiny. The public, eager for a resolution to the long-standing issue of insufficient street lighting, now looks to Wike for tangible and timely action to enhance safety in these dimly lit areas of the nation’s capital

Meanwhile, in response to some of the critics of his post, Bashir replied to one Twitter User Realpilsheik comment who wrote;

Bashir, this darkness in Abuja didn’t just start and I am sure you know. The administration you served left it unattended. I don’t know if you have ever spoken to the then FCT minister.”

In response , Bashir wrote;

I believe it’s improper to disclose our private discussions with former government officials. God is my witness, I offered my best then, and I will equally do my best now.

See conversations below;

The conversation on social media reflects a mix of genuine public concern about the safety of citizens in poorly illuminated districts and a healthy dose of skepticism regarding the motivations behind Bashir’s tweet. As the discussion unfolds, it remains to be seen how the FCT Minister will respond to the call for immediate action and whether tangible improvements in street lighting will be implemented in the near future.

Fire Erupts at Russian Gas Terminal near St Petersburg

A natural gas terminal in Ust-Luga, a Baltic Sea port near St Petersburg, experienced a blaze on Sunday.

Lifestyle Nigeria reports that according to Novatek, Russia’s leading liquefied natural gas exporter, the blaze was caused by an “external factor”.

The fire, located 110 kilometers west of St Petersburg, near the Estonian border, has been “currently localized,” with no reported casualties.

Neither Novaktek nor the authorities gave further details about the cause of the fire, which is 1,000 kilometres (600 miles) from the Ukrainian border.

While details about the cause remain scant, this incident follows Ukraine claiming responsibility for recent attacks on Russian oil depots, raising concerns amid Russia’s upcoming presidential election.

The Ust-Luga complex is crucial for processing natural gas condensate, and the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline to Germany starts from this location.
