Top 15 Personality Traits That Will Get You Hired

\"\"\"\"

When recruiting, there are certain traits employers look for in the ideal job seeker. No matter how perfect your resume or curriculum vitae (CV) is, there are still several crucial factors employers and any HR company consider during an interview.

\"\"\"\"

Source: Career paths

Getting hired is possible when you have an edge over the others or when you have something exclusive to offer – something which makes you stand out – your “PERSONALITY”.

\"\"\"\"

While we are not born with every desired trait, it is imperative we gain these attributes as we continue in our career and subsequently during our next job search.

In no particular order, here are the traits that will get you hired by employers.

1. Tech Savvy

\"\"\"\"

Being tech-savvy will be an advantage to get hired. These days organisations face heavy competition and recession. So they require candidates who can bring innovative ideas or develop products or services which help the organisation to grow vertically. They can also train others to work for the common goal.

2. Agility

\"\"\"\"

This isn’t talking about your ability to physically jump through hoops or walk balance beams; metaphorically, a company wants to see if you can adapt when necessary, recognize shifting dynamics, and possess intercultural skills that help you find common ground and collaborate with your colleagues.

3. Flexibility

\"\"\"\"

Employers would be happy to hire candidates who are flexible enough to accept the process changes or upcoming norms of the organisation. It also assures the employer that they can take up any opportunity irrespective of their role or position in the organisation.

Personal traits are more with handling work and dealing with people. So this is also one of the traits that are being examined in interview.

4. Adaptability

In some fields, a job is changing and evolving day by day. Employers want to hire adaptable professionals who can change with it. This may mean someone who can follow directions one day and figure out his or her direction the next. Or perhaps someone who can spend some days behind desk and other days in the field, equally productive in both environments.

5. Self Reliance

\"\"\"\"

Resilient applicants are amongst the most sought after by hiring companies. Employers do not want to hire people who require handholding or constant praise to feel appreciated. They are looking for employees who can motivate themselves, figure out what needs to be done and then do it. Everyone appreciates a pat on the back from time to time, but it shouldn’t be required to do your job well.

6. Team oriented

Hiring people who “buy into the system” is of the utmost importance when recruiting. They can work effectively in situations that require the cooperation of others, clearly, fit into the confines of the firm’s corporate culture and bring a dynamic to meetings that welcome debate and, ultimately, solve problems.

Employers are looking for those who can collaborate well with others, not behave like divas.

7. Passionate

\"\"\"\"

Although all employees are driven by monetary gain, the most sought after people are the ones who enjoy the work as much as they do the reward. Without passion, employees will utilise only a fraction of their intelligence, achieve only a percentage of what they can and will inevitably burn-out. Moreover, they will fail to positively impact both their lives and the lives of their co-workers, clients, managers as well as the firm’s leadership team.

8. Attitude

\"\"\"\"

Very few job postings will list a “sense of humor” as a qualification, but equally few office environments can do without enthusiastic, entertaining employees. Come to work with a sense of fun, the enjoyment of a new challenge and the intelligence to know you don’t have all the answers (but you do have a willingness to persist until you find them).

9. Dependability

Employers want to hire professionals who will be there to do the job without supervision every day. They do not want to waste their time with someone who is going to use all of his or her days, demanding either sick leave or vacation time during the busy season, or abuse a flexible schedule.

10. Communication Skills

\"\"\"\"

Beyond the must-have job-specific skills, few other skills are sought after by every employer; one such key skill is COMMUNICATION. This is the ability to listen, speak, and write efficiently.

Effective communication is fundamental in any business. The most preferred skills for any employer are communication skills and communication skills are all about being clear, focused, comprehensible and paying attention to other views.

11. Body Language

\"\"\"\"

Body language demonstrates your inner personality to others. When we say Body Language we are referring to Body Posture, Handshake, Eye contact etcetera.

From an interviewer’s point of view, body language helps in judging an interviewee’s personality and confidence. Research reveals that 75% of all communication takes place non-verbally. Our gestures, therefore, play an elementary role in an interview.

It is very important that you keep an erect body posture. Do not fidget with your pen or play with your keys as it indicates nervousness and disinterest. Also, don’t overlook the power of a firm handshake.

12. Leadership Skills

\"\"\"\"

You don’t need the title “leader” behind your name to step forward and be a person of influence and an ambassador for your organisation’s goals and objectives. “Doing the right thing vs. Doing things right” is a common definition of leader vs. manager. Ironically, leadership is not the result of a training session.

It is a culmination of being a professional, a role model to others, exhibiting the traits of integrity, inspiring others to do the right thing and sometimes to stand up for your convictions even when everyone else disagrees. True leaders are more interested in others than in themselves. Recruiters and hiring managers can spot leaders easily. Those traits are revealed in interview responses.

13. Independent Thinker

\"\"\"\"

Many times people will follow all the rules and regulations of the company. It is a good thing and surely the employer will remain happy towards them. But sharing your thoughts in the company is also a great way to show your value. Many employers want to employ people who can say what is right for the company.

The ability to think independently and make a decision as well as take responsibility for the outcome is always essential for the company. A company requires this kind of people and it will also lead towards leadership and management post.

14. Honesty

\"\"\"\"

Once a liar, always a liar, or at least in the eyes of potential employers. It almost goes without saying, but if an employer discovers an “inaccuracy” or “exaggeration” in your resume (perhaps while conducting a reference check), you will quickly find yourself resuming your job search.

15. Disciplined

\"\"\"\"

The basic expectation from a candidate is discipline. An indisciplined person does not adhere to the company rules and regulations. In other words, not being responsible at a workplace.

The determination of employers to recruit the most intelligent, creative, and flexible employees possible is central to how they think about talent and success.

Hitching a ride with employers can be a game-changer in your career. Now you know what it’ll take to get into that game.

News Update?Osun Governorship Election Petition Tribunal Sitting Begins October 26

Latest Politics updatein nigeria

Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal will on October 26 begin a full hearing of the petition filed by Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC) against the declaration of Senator Ademola Adeleke as governor-elect.

Lifestyle Nigeria reports that the tribunal made this pronouncement after concluding the pre-hearing session on Thursday.

The tribunal was asked to dismiss the applications of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), seeking the discontinuation of the petition brought to it by Governor Oyetola.

Counsel for Oyetola and the APC, Lasun Sanusi, SAN, at the sitting of the tribunal argued that Adeleke’s, PDP’s and INEC’s reliance on a Federal Court High judgment was nothing but an abuse of court process.

Sanusi argued this while replying to separate applications of the trio, seeking the dismissal of the petition based on the already appealed Federal High Court judgment disqualifying Oyetola from contesting the election.

Citing Supreme Court decisions in the case of Jegede Vs INEC, 2021, 14NWLR, Pt 1797, page 409, the counsel said the court had ruled that the signatories to the letter conveying the nomination of a candidate were not the nominators; rather, the nomination was done by party members at the congress, hence, the judgment could not stand.

Meanwhile, the counsel for INEC, Prof. Paul Ananaba, SAN; counsel for Adeleke, Onyechi Ikpeazu, SAN and counsel for the PDP, Dr. Alex Izinyon, SAN, agreed that any decision the tribunal would take on the matter would have to wait until the Appeal Court and the Supreme Court decided on it.

They noted that they just decided to argue the applications to have it on record, a position which the tribunal agreed with and put on record.

Also, in other applications totalling nine by the three respondents, they asked the tribunal to strike out some paragraphs of the petition on the grounds that they were either lumped together or not related to the 2022 election.

In response to each of the applications, Sanusi said all the cases cited by the respondents were misconceived, adding that they were not applicable in the instance case.

He cited the case of INEC Vs Otti, 2016, 8NWLR, where the Supreme Court hinted that INEC was supposed to be neutral, arguing that all the processes filed before the panel have not portrayed the commission’s neutrality.

Sanusi further argued that the applications filed by the respondents were only meant to prevent the tribunal from focusing on hearing the petition on merit, asking the panel to dismiss the applications.

Subsequently, counsel for all parties in the matter agreed to begin the full hearing starting with the calling of witnesses on October 26.

In his ruling, the tribunal declared the pre-hearing session concluded and announced that the pre-hearing conference report would be presented on October 17.
