Two APC Lawmakers Defect To PDP In Edo

On Monday, in the Edo State House of Assembly, two All Progressive Congress lawmakers resigned from the party and defected to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

The former House Deputy Speaker and Member for Akoko-Edo 1, Yekini Idaiye, and Nosayaba Okunbor, Member for the East Constituency of Orhionmwon, are the two legislators.

Speaker Marcus Onobun read their letters of resignation on the floor of the House.

The letter of resignation from Yekini Idaiye reads: ‘May I use this medium to inform you as an APC member of my resignation.

I made this decision because of the internal crisis in the party, from my ward to the local government level, which has led to the party factions for some time now.

“It is on this note that I have chosen to resign from my APC membership and officially defect to the PDP.”

The Nosayaba Okunbor resignation letter states: “This is to inform you formally of my decision to resign from the APC membership.”

This decision is a sequel to the division within the party which has become intractable.
?
I have made strenuous efforts to ensure that this division is addressed within the party in accordance with the party’s constitutional provision, but to no avail as the leadership of the party has simply refused to allow the issues involved to be resolved.

“I therefore have no choice but to resign my membership as a lean Liberty, which they say is better than fat slavery.”

Onobun welcomed the lawmakers of the PDP and commended their desire to cooperate with the state governor to make Edo great again.

In the 10-man House of Assembly, with only one APC lawmaker, the defection of the two legislators brought the number of PDP lawmakers to nine.
