However, after receiving numerous criticisms, Alex Iwobi deleted his Instagram account.
Super Eagles stars Victor Osimhen, William Troost-Ekong, Samuel Chukwueze, and Joseph Ayodele-Aribo, among others, have come out in support of Alex Iwobi’s fight against cyberbullying.
Their message reads, “We win together; we lose together.” We’re all one. Some of our fans should perform better. @alexanderiwobi.”
Netizens react:
@Mist: “Alex Iwobi gave everything throughout the tournament only to get abused by these ungrateful Nigerian cunts. They do not deserve anything good. I’m not even Nigerian but we’re all with you king❤️”
@Ahmed Musa: “Dear fans, I want to please urge you to halt the cyber-bullying directed towards Alex Iwobi. Cyber bullying is not just a violation of decency but also a serious crime. It’s hypocritical to claim that football unites us while engaging in such behavior.
Losing a game is undoubtedly tough, but targeting a single player for the team’s shortcomings is unfair and unjust. We win as a team, and we lose as a team. Alex gave his all on the field, just like every member of our squad.
Instead of spreading negativity, let’s show genuine love and support to our players. They need our encouragement now more than ever. Let’s uplift each other and stand united, both in victory and defeat. ???????????????? THANKS”
@SirJarus: “Alex Iwobi at 27 has made 74 appearances for Nigeria. There were Super Eagles that select matches they want to come for. He makes himself available for even the most inconsequential friendly. And he has 10 goals for Nigeria as a midfielder. He deserves some respect.”
@distinguished: “Nobody who knows how to play football and analyze football will blame Alex Iwobi.
The coach came with his pattern. He came to snatch, grab, and run. Leave Iwobi alone.”
